New Year’s reception at House of the European Union, Vienna:

New Head of European Commission Representation in Vienna introduced

For the first time the European Commission Representation in Vienna hosted a New Year’s reception on 28 January 2016 in the House of the European Union in Vienna. The guests from politics and diplomacy were welcomed by the new head of the European Commission in Vienna, Jörg Wojahn. He has taken the opportunity to introduce himself to the Austrian public as he has taken over this position in September 2015. Wojahn worked as Counsellor of the EU Delegation in Riyadh from 2010 – 2015, which is responsible for relations of the EU with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states. He previously worked as journalist and correspondent for the Austrian daily newspaper “Der Standard” in Vienna and Brussels.

After a brief greeting by the Vice-President of the European Parliament Ulrike Lunacek, the former Finance Minister and now Managing Director of EU-funds (EFSI) Wilhelm Molterer held a speech on the new Juncker investment plan. The plan is active in three areas, firstly, mobilising investments of at least €315 billion in three years, secondly, supporting investment in the real economy and thirdly, creating an investment friendly environment to encourage a long-term economic growth in the EU.
The plan has been proposed by the Commission in November 2014 after the European Council had called on the Commission to act on the low level of investments in the EU.
In a brief conversation IRE-Chairman Prof. Dr. Franz Schausberger has invited Wilhelm Molterer to speak as an expert at the 12th Conference of European regions and cities of the IRE on 25 – 27 September 2016 in Salzburg.

The evening was concluded with jazz music.
