Many media consumers are not only interested in information on international and national events but also on happenings in their immediate region or community. Therefore, local and regional coverage in the print media and electronic media play an increasingly important role for exchange of regional information, the formation of regional identity and, hence, the “sense of home”. Regional media are the counterpart of the media globalization and therefore deserve special attention and support.
